ADD A VOICE
Add A Voice was set up in 1994 to offer support to advocacy groups, and in 1999 set up its own Direct Advocacy
Service, offering support to individuals.
The organisation runs training courses in basic advocacy skills for volunteer advocates, offering advocacy support
to vulnerable people in the local community. They help clients to voice their opinions and work with them in ensuring
that their needs are met. Examples of cases undertaken by volunteers include:- assisting people attend meetings or
write letters, enabling a person to move out of supported accommodation into their own home, helping a client access
information about budgeting their finances. All of the services provided by Add A Voice are free and confidential.
Lucy Whiting, Advocacy Services Co-ordinator, has responsibility for supporting volunteers who provide advocacy.
