Situated opposite The Harrow on the site of the factory this was the colliery that brought Richard Evans, proprietor of the Haydock Collieries, to Lancashire. He was a publisher in Paternoster Row in London and bought a share in this colliery with Turner to form Turner and Evans but Richard Evans quickly bought out his partner, and this was the first colliery of the Richard Evans Company,
