Ashton-in-Makerfield Labour Party Branch

The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many not the few, where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe, and where we live together, freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.

Our ward councillor is Nigel Ash. Follow his work to represent the people of Ashton on his blog

We are a branch of the Makerfield Constituency Labour Party, and part of the national Labour Party and Labour movement. We meet regularly to plan activities, discuss policy and give us the opportunity of getting to know each other. We receive reports from delegates to CLP and other Party organisations, and hear invited speakers.

However, there is more to membership than Branch meetings. We campaign in Ashton on local and national issues, hold fund-raising events, distribute local newsletters and run election campaigns. We enjoy meeting for social events too!

The Branch works to be an active part of the local community. Members serve on local bodies and are active in assisting with the work of local organisations such as Ashton and Bryn Township Forum, Town Green Residents' Association, Captain's Lane Community Centre, the Friends of Three Sisters and Ashton Heath Residents' Association. In this way, individually and collectively through the Branch, we are able to promote Labour Party principles locally and support local initiatives in the community.

We have a range of skills and abilities in the Branch. Whether you seek an official position within or outside the Branch, wish to help with fund-raising, production and delivery of newsletters and leaflets, or to promote discussion at our Branch meetings, you can be sure that your contribution will be appreciated.

If you would like to help us elect other members as Labour councillors to combat the negativity, nastiness and NIMBYism of the Community Action Party and their acolytes then please feel free to email us.
